COSTUMES, HAIR, & MAKEUP

Check out all costume details below!

All costumes should be hung neatly in an out-of-the-way place so that children are not tempted to play with them. At this late date it would be impossible to replace them should any damage occur.

To prepare tutus: Hang and pull netting as straight as possible. A few days before pictures, costumes should be steamed to get out remaining wrinkles. The best way to do this is to hang them in the washroom and let the shower steam do the trick. Netting and sequins do not dry clean well. If necessary, hand wash in cold water and "Woolite" type detergent, then air dry and steam as above. All other costumes can be steamed the same way.

Shoes are required for all performing students. Please make sure you have the appropriate colored footwear. Black tap, caramel jazz shoes and pink ballet shoes. For hip hop please see the desk for appropriate footwear. Acro is performed barefoot.

HAIR GUIDELINES:

Any student in a ballet piece should have their hair pulled back in a bun.

A video tutorial is included below!

We have bun kits available to purchase at the studio to help prepare your dancer.

Please stop by the front desk and grab yours today.

For jazz/tap/contemporary please pull hair back neatly in a low ponytail with middle part.

For acro please pull hair back neatly in a low braid ponytail with a middle part.

If a hairpiece is included in your costume, please place on it the right side of your child’s head.

If a ribbon or a scrunchie is included in the costume lookbook, place it around the ponytail.

MAKEUP GUIDELINES:

All students should also be wearing makeup on picture and recital days. After hours of lessons, we want to see your dancer's face clearly when they take center stage under the bright lights. We want your picture and video memories to be as clear as possible to preserve their wonderful memories, on stage and in the classroom. At a minimum, we recommend all girls should be wearing lipstick, blush, & mascara. For a more complete look, you can add a base and eye shadow (neutrals- no blues) and eye liner. A make-up video is included below also with easy step by step instructions.

All boys should have on base, concealer, a little bit of blush and mascara.

Thank you for all your help and patience with recital and costume preparations. It is not the easiest part of recital, but it certainly is the prettiest!!!

We are excited to see all the dancers on-stage and dancing in their costume finery!
